Tony Smith's profile

GE: Consumer & Industrial

I had the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects during my 8+ years with GE. The majority of time was devoted to major appliances with other projects coming from different internal businesses. I began as a production designer with absolutely no graphic design experience and left as a key influential voice in brand management, user interface design and product development.
Perhaps the most important aspect of my experience was working with a multidisciplinary team of people who often had opposing goals and perspectives. As a lobbyist for the end-user it was my job to satisfy challenging business goals and constraints while maximizing the user experience. I learned a lot about design but even more about managing personalities and relationships in order to achieve the best solution.
Industrial Design & 3d Rendering

Though most of my time was spent in the 2D realm of screen-print graphics and overlays, I was given a unique opportunity to venture into industrial design on a production product. I had full responsibility of the design process from concepts to final review of engineering drawings and materials. The result is a product that has been successful at retail and received positive feedback from sales managers across the business. I’m proud to be able to walk into a retail store and see so many products I’ve been able to influence.
